Powder or Ceramic?
Which Coating for Which Engine Part
Tell us the part and we’ll tell you the coating. Most engine dress-up parts get powder. Anything that sees exhaust heat gets ceramic.
Engine Dress-Up & Chassis Parts
Everything in the two packages above, plus fuel rails and throttle bodies — powder cures around 400°F. We keep 3 blacks plus a handful of other colors in stock and can order from 7,000+ more.
Colors we don’t stock arrive in 3–5 business days; expedited next-day delivery is available for a fee.
Turbo Housings, Exhaust Manifolds & Headers
These run far past what powder can take, so they get Cerakote ceramic, rated to 1800°F. Details on our ceramic exhaust & header coating page.
- Turbo housings and hot-side piping
- Exhaust manifolds and headers
- Downpipes and mid-pipes
- Heat shields
Our Process
How It Works
Get a Quote
Send us photos of your parts or bring them in. We’ll quote based on size, quantity, and color.
Drop Off Parts
Bring your parts to our Centennial, CO shop, off the vehicle. Bring them as-is or bare — either works. Removing gaskets, sensors, bushings and rubber or plastic yourself saves labor cost; if we do it, it’s added labor.
Prep & Coat
We strip the part to bare metal, apply your chosen powder coat color, and cure it in our oven for a durable finish.
Pick Up
Powder coating and Cerakote engine parts are ready in 5–10 business days. We’ll confirm your pickup date at drop-off.
Common Questions
Engine Component FAQ
We powder coat valve covers, intake manifolds, intercooler piping, throttle bodies, engine covers, subframes, control arms, engine brackets, motor mounts, hard lines, and more. If it’s metal, we can coat it.
Plan on 5–10 business days for powder coating and Cerakote engine parts. If your job mixes both — a powder-coated valve cover and a Cerakoted turbo housing, say — it’s one drop-off and one 5–10 business day timeline. We’ll confirm the pickup date when you drop off.
We keep 3 blacks plus a handful of other colors in stock, and can order from 7,000+ Prismatic Powders colors — gloss, matte, satin, metallic, candy, and textured finishes. Colors we don’t stock arrive in 3–5 business days; expedited next-day delivery is available for a fee. Custom color matching is available — bring a sample or give us a color code and we’ll match it.
Standard powder coating handles temperatures up to about 400°F, which is fine for valve covers, intake manifolds, subframes, and most engine dress-up parts. For extreme heat parts like exhaust headers or turbo housings (1000°F+), we recommend Cerakote instead — see ceramic exhaust & header coating.
Powder coating gives a thicker, more durable finish with more color options — perfect for valve covers, manifolds, subframes, and brackets. Cerakote is a thinner ceramic coating designed for extreme heat (up to 1800°F) — best for exhaust headers, turbo housings, and downpipes (see ceramic exhaust & header coating).
Pricing depends on the size, quantity, and complexity of parts. Call us at (720) 328-5439 or submit a quote request with photos for a personalized estimate.
Yes — all parts must be removed from the vehicle before drop-off. We coat loose parts only. Your mechanic or performance shop can handle removal if needed. Once they’re off, bring them as-is or bare — either works. Removing gaskets, sensors, bushings and rubber or plastic yourself saves labor cost; if we do it, it’s added labor.
We coat them, just not with powder. Turbo housings, exhaust manifolds, headers, and downpipes run well past 400°F, so they get Cerakote ceramic (rated to 1800°F) instead. Intake manifolds, charge pipes, valve covers, and brackets stay powder. Details on our ceramic exhaust & header coating page.
Year, make, and model; a list of the parts (for example “valve cover, intake manifold, two charge pipes”); the color you want; and a photo of each part. That’s enough for us to quote most engine jobs without you coming in first.
Yes — lifetime warranty against failure to adhere on powder coating. It doesn’t cover misuse, abuse, neglect, accident, or improper installation, and we don’t warranty powder over chrome plating. Full terms on our warranty page.
