If you searched “hail damage repair cost Denver,” you’re in one of three spots: you have a claim number and want to know what your deductible really means, you have a few dents and want to know if it’s worth paying out of pocket, or you’re worried the car is a write-off. Here’s how the numbers actually work along the Front Range, what moves them, and how to keep your share small.
The short answer
Hail repair is priced by the dent: how many, how big, and which panels. Along the Front Range, typical paintless dent repair (PDR) ranges look like this:
- Light hail (a few dozen small dents, mostly hood and roof): roughly $1,500 to $3,000.
- Moderate hail (dents on most panels, some larger): roughly $3,000 to $6,000.
- Severe hail (hundreds of dents, cracked paint, or panels that have to be replaced): $6,000 to $10,000+.
Those are insurance-scale numbers, and that’s the point: most Denver hail repair is paid by your comprehensive coverage, not by you. What moves the number
- Dent count. The estimate is built panel by panel under PDR lights. Fifty dents and five hundred dents are different jobs.
- Dent size. Dime-size dents are quick. Quarter-size and larger take more time per dent and cost more.
- Which panel. Hoods and roofs take the brunt. Roof rails, sail panels and body lines are harder to reach from behind, so they price higher. Aluminum panels (common on newer trucks and luxury cars) also cost more to work.
- Access. If a headliner or trim has to come out to reach the dents, that labor is in the estimate.
- Paint condition. PDR only works when the paint is intact. Cracked or chipped paint on a dent means that panel needs conventional repair.
- Panel replacement. A hood or roof so dented it can’t be saved gets replaced and painted, which is where the “$10,000+” jobs come from.
Insurance pays for most of it
Hail is a comprehensive claim, not collision, and not your fault. Comprehensive deductibles in Colorado commonly run $250 to $1,000. The insurer pays the shop’s estimate minus your deductible, and any deductible assistance the shop offers comes off your share. PDR vs. body shop: why the price and the result differ
Paintless dent repair works the metal back into shape from behind the panel. No filler, no sanding, no repaint. Your factory paint and factory panels stay on the car, which matters for resale and for how the repair looks in five years. It’s also faster, usually days instead of weeks.
A conventional body shop fills and repaints. That’s the right call when paint is cracked, metal is creased, or a panel is beyond saving, and it costs more because paint and materials are on the bill. Is the car totaled?
An insurer declares a total loss when the repair estimate gets close to what the car is worth. Most hail claims come in well under that, so the title is untouched. If a total-loss call is on the table, ask before you accept the check. Repair is often still the better outcome, and once a car is titled salvage its value takes a permanent hit.
